From Atlanta, Vinings is just across the Chattahoochee River. An early name for the area was Crossroads, then The Paces after Hardy Pace. Vinings was the official Railroad Construction Station after the rail tracks were laid by The Western and Atlantic Railroad. William H. Vining worked on the railroad construction laying tracks, the area was the name for him. In 1904 the one-lane bridge crossing the Chattahoochee River was completed and the community was recognized the same year. However, the town was never incorporated.
