Roswell is an Atlanta suburb North of the city of Sandy Springs. Neighboring cities of Roswell NE is Alpharetta to its Northeast, Milton to its North, Johns Creek to its East and Sandy Springs to its South.

Roswell was named for Roswell King whowasone of the three founding residents,a prominent resident, of Roswell and owner of Roswell Mill in the early 1830s. King’s son Barrington King, who ended up succeeding his father manufacturing business,also joined him in Roswell and built Barrington Hall in 1842. Roswell King also invited his friend James Stephens Bulloch, a prominent planter the Georgia coast to Roswell. In 1839 Bulloch built Bulloch Hall, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, in Roswell Georgia. Bulloch Hall was a former residence of Martha Bulloch Roosevelt “Mattie” who is the daughter of James Stephens Bulloch, mother of Theodore Roosevelt the 26th President of The United States of America and the Grandmother of Eleanor Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch Roosevelt “Mattie” married on December 22, 1853 in the dining room at Bulloch Hall. Archibald Smith is another prominent planter who migrated to Roswell and built the Archibald Smith Plantation in 1845.

Today, The Archibald Smith Plantation Home, Bulloch Hall and Barrington Hall are all open to the public.

Roswell was originally part of Cobb county when it was first settled on. However, in 1931 during the great depression, Milton county suffered severe financial hardship which forced it to merge with Fulton County. In an effort to facilitate the merger Cobb County ceded Roswell which then became part of Fulton county on May 9th, 1932.

Just about 15 miles north of Buckhead and about 23 miles to downtown Atlanta, transportation between Roswell to Buckhead will have you travelling State 400 South also referred to as GA400 South downtown Atlanta. If you prefer public transportation, there are lots of options.
With several bus lines available and connection to MARTA rail station in North Springs approximately 7 miles from Roswell. Some people who work in the City of Atlanta are known to park at North Springs station and take the MARTA train to intown or to Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport. That being said, it’s highly recommended that those who live in Roswell Georgia have a vehicle for transportation to move around freely.
