Powder Springs

History

Powder springs is a city located in cobb county formerly incorporated as Springville in1839. However, in 1859 it was renamed as Powder Springs. It is believed to have gotten its name from the seven springs in the city limits. These springs have water that contains some 26 minerals which results that black like gunpowder sand in the surrounding area. hence why it also had the earlier name of Gunpowder Springs.

Powder Springs Public Schools

Public Schools for Powder Springs are part of the Cobb County School District, which is home to McEachern High School. McEachern High School is located on the site of the former Native American burial ground and the former Seventh District Agricultural and Mechanical (A & M) School.
McEachern High School administrative building is named for Senator Russell who attended the school.
