Milton was named in honor of John Milton who was born in North Carolina but served in the Military in Georgia and later served as a politician in Georgia. He served as Georgia’s first secretary of State and three times elected Mayor of Augusta Georgia.

The city of Milton was incorporated on December 1, 2006 and was again named in honor of John Milton. Milton’s zip code is 30004.
