Mableton

Mableton’s history and more:

By 1830’s, most native inhabitants were forced out of their lands in Georgia and land was granted to mostly European settlers by land lottery. On September 11, 1843, Scottish immigrant Robert Mable (1803-1885) purchased 300 acres of land in Southern Cobb County form the Georgia land Lottery of 1832. The town Mableton got its name from the Scottish immigrant.

Mableton is in Cobb County Georgia and is the largest unincorporated community in Metro Atlanta with over 40,000 residents per 2020 census. The town was incorporated on August 19, 1912. However, after the town suffered devasting damages from a heavy flood that resulted in high unexpected tax burdens, which the locals were successful in demanding that all of Cobb County help pay for the tax that was imposed for their storm drains, this resulted in the towns charter been revoked and then Mableton was disincorporated on August 17, 1916.
