Your Guide to Johns Creek: Everything You Need to Know About Johns Creek and its history

Johns Creek is part of the Metropolitan Atlanta arealocated in the northeast Section of Fulton county. Johns Creek is bordered by the Chattahoochee River and Gwinnett county to the South, McGinnis Ferry and Forsyth County to the Northeast, Alpharetta to the Northwest, Roswell to West,Suwanee to the East and Duluth, Peachtree Corners and Berkeley lake to the South.

The area was an early 1900’s trading postalong the Chattahoochee River. Some of the trading posts overtime became crossroads communities. The four main crossroads communities are Shakerag, Ocee, Newton and Warsaw.

John Rodgers was one of the pioneer families along with McGinnis, Cowart, Buice, Findley, Medlock and others who would sometimes gather tat trade posts to visit and sell their crops. The name Johns Creek came about when a tributary was named for Johnathan K. Rodgers, the son of Pioneer John Rodgers, and it was called “Johns Creek”.

In 1858 Milton was formed and the Johns Creek area was folded into it. However, during the great depression in the 1930’s, Milton County found itself in financial hardship and was forced to merge into Fulton county.

Then in 1981 a group of Georgia Institute of Technology Graduates bought and developed 1700 acres of woods and farmland into what is now known as Technology Park. They had come up with the name Technology Park/Johns Creek after seeing Johns Creek on old map. This then became the first time Johns Creek was referenced as a place. Technology Park is located near McGinnis Ferry and Medlock Bridge roads. The development of Technology Park is a High-Tech Park and attracted many Fortune 500 Companies and has spurred economic boom in the area. With more than 6,000,000 square feet of industrial, retail and office space, not surprising that there are Approximately 200 Companies in Technology Park. The growth created a demand for more housing and as a result, developers built more homes and shopping centers to service the growing population.

Johns Creek was incorporated on December 1, 2006. Today, with an estimated Population of over 80,000 people, Johns Creek is the 10th largest city in Georgia.
