Dunwoody
Dunwoody Georgia officially became a city on December 1, 2008. As of 2019, the US census bureau has the city of Dunwoody with a population of over 49,000. Dunwoody is located on the Northern section of Dekalb County with Fulton County to its North and west, Peachtree Industrial Boulevard on its Southeast, Gwinnett County on Northeast and 285 to its Northwest. Dunwoody is a total of 13.2 Square Miles (12.9 Square Miles is land and 0.23 is water).
Dunwoody was named for Major Charles Archibald Alexander Dunwoody (1828-1905) whose last name Dunwoody was originally spelt Dunwody, with one “o”. It is believed his name was incorrectly spelt as Dunwoody on a bank note.
Major Charles Dunwoody who fought in the civil war for the Confederates had originally returned to Roswell where he grew up. However, after returning to Roswell and noticing all the damage, Major Charles Dunwoody built a new home by Chamblee Dunwoody Road and Spalding Drive. He later returned to Roswell where he is believed to be buried with his family. Major Dunwoody was the son of John Dunwoody. John Dunwoody was one of Roswell’s Manufacturing Mills founder.
The construction of the Roswell Railroad in 1881 which operated through 1921 and ran from Roswell to Chamblee Georgia, transporting Cotton and dry goods, made a stop in Dunwoody which became a crossroads city. The oldest Building in Dunwoody is The Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church, still an active Church, located at the Northwest corner of Spalding Drive and Roberts Drive. The Church was constituted on November 29, 1829. The original Structure was directly across the street and the current Church location was re-constructed a few times. In 1905 on his way to Roswell to visit Bulloch Hall (The childhood home of his mother Martha Bulloch Roosevelt), Theodore Roosevelt the 26th President of The United States made a Campaign whistle stop in Dunwoody.
The city of Dunwoody has grown and continues to thrive. Now, the area continues to attract affluent residents and visitors. An ever-growing area that’s always thriving, Dunwoody offers tourists and locals and wide selection of premium entertainment, restaurants and shopping. Companies such as Cox, Intercontinental Hotels Group and Dekalb County School system are major employers in Dunwoody. There are also several other Businesses in the Perimeter Mall Business district. Dunwoody has lots of beautiful homes and townhomes at more affordable price than Buckhead which is about 9 miles away.

How to Get Around: Dunwoody Transportation Options
Commuting in Dunwoody via public transportation is convenient and easy with MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) bus and Rail station called Dunwoody MARTA Station. The Dunwoody MARTA rail station is on the Red line and is located on the SE corner of Perimeter Mall. There is a total of 1048 parking spaces available in two parking decks at Dunwoody MARTA station for daily and long-term parking.

The first Dunwoody Public elementary school was Dunwoody Elementary School which was located at the corner of Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd and Mount Vernon Rd. However, the site is now Dekalb County library Dunwoody branch along with North Dekalb Culture Arts center.
