Druid Hills was developed by Inman Par, the developer of the first suburbs in Atlanta, during the late 29th and early 20th centuries. Hurt was on the quest for the perfect suburb, so employed Frederick Law Olmstead to help create the ultimate outer-Atlanta area.
Just a few miles east of the heart of downtown, Druid Hills was initially home to the most elite in Atlanta (in the 2800s), like Asa Candler, the founder of Coca-Cola.
Druid Hills is famously not punctuated by new development like many of its neighboring cities and suburbs, and the Druid Hills Civic Association maintains the historic neighborhood with the help of government officials and residents alike.
How to Get Around: Druid Hills Transportation Options
Just five miles east of downtown Atlanta, transportation in Druid Hills is a breeze! A quick ride in the car can take you anywhere you need to go, but for those who prefer public transport, there are lots of options.
With several bus lines available and intersecting rail stations in Brookhaven and Avondale, getting around Druid Hills is never difficult! That being said, it’s highly recommended those who live in Druid Hills have a vehicle for transportation to fully optimize the community’s offerings.
