One of the most notable neighborhoods, Historic Brookhaven, is surrounded by an 18-hole golf course which is a part of the Downtown Capital City Club which is the oldest private members-only club in Atlanta.  Homes in Brookhaven surround the Capital city are priced significantly higher than other Brookhaven homes mainly due to higher land cost.

In the past, Brookhaven was considered a sub-section of Buckhead. It was first settled in 1810 by the first permanent European settler, John Evins. Over time, more folks settled. Residents began constructing summer cottages and communities in the area around 1900. Then, it was incorporated as part of the city of North Atlanta in 1924.

On July 31, 2012, Brookhaven was approved for incorporation and became its own city on December 17, 2912.

Murphey Candler Park is a great outdoor space that sprawls over 135 acres and features picnic areas, wetlands, forests, a lake, and more! Brookhaven is a delightfully convenient location for those who want to see all of what Atlanta has to offer. This town has a strong infrastructure that supports convenient public transit. With proximity to all major highways and a MARTA rail service, you’re never far from the action.

While Brookhaven boasts bus services as well as Zip cars that are readily available, the beautiful thing about this quaint town is its undeniably pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Oftentimes, getting around Brookhaven is as simple as taking a walk.

Brookhaven boasts a variety of education options in the district—both public and private—that range from early elementary to higher education. Among them are Chamblee Charter High School, Chamblee Middle School, DeKalb School of the Arts, Dekalb Early College Academy, Kittredge Magnet School, Ashford Park Elementary School, the GLOBE Academy, Wadsworth Magnet School for High Achievers, John Robert Lewis Elementary School, and more.  Some parts of Historic Brookhaven are apart of the Buckhead School district and as a result would be served by Sarah Smith Elementary School, Sutton Middle School and North Atlanta High School.

Of course, Brookhaven is famously home to Oglethorpe University, Atlanta’s premier liberal arts and sciences university.
